Pros & Cons to the Caltrain
The Caltrain links San Jose with San Francisco passing Silicon Valley and Stanford along the way. The Caltrain does not connect directly with either the San Jose or San Francisco airport terminal. A free shuttle will take passengers from the San Jose airport to the Santa Clara Caltrain station and riders can use the BART to get from the San Francisco airport to the Millbrae Caltrain station.
The major pitfall with the Caltrain for tourist is that it does not connect directly into downtown San Francisco. The last stop leaves riders 13 blocks short of downtown, and quite far from Fisherman’s Wharf. In order to get deeper access to the city and tourist spots riders will need to take the Muni T line, or the CalExpress 81 bus line. The last Caltrain station does however leave riders at the foot of AT&T Park where the Giants play.
