About the 16th & Mission Neighborhood

Who is Best for this Location?

thumbs_up Young couples who want to explore San Francisco’s hipster neighborhoods.

nieghborhood_vibe_48Neighborhood Vibe: The 16th Street BART station is in the heart of San Francisco’s Mission District. It’s a vibrant city neighborhood that changes dramatically block by block. Some areas are full of hipsters, others are marked by corner bodegas and taquerias, and others should be avoided at night. It’s a great place to stay if you want to stray off the beaten path, but not too far.

getting_around_48Getting Around: From The Mission, it’s about 35 minutes to SFO Airport on public transit and 45 minutes to Oakland International Airport. It’s just one stop to Powell St. and the ride is less than five minutes.

what_to_east_48What to Eat: If you want to dig into the Mexican and South American food scene in the Mission, La Oaxaqueña and Chile Lindo Empanadas are an easy walk from the BART station. Mission Cheese is one of the great hipster restaurants in the area where you can pair a cheese flight with wine and housemade pickles.

things_to_do_48Things to Do: Dolores Park is a great place to look out over San Francisco, relax, and do some people watching. Shopping in The Mission is also a lot of fun because there are a number of indepently run, quirky shops including three bookstores and a Pirate Supply Store. In the evenings, there are lots of great cocktail bars to try like Trick Dog.
